Bartholomews is a small, friendly independent college in central Brighton, specialising in individual and small group tuition with close personal supervision. First-time and re-take courses start on any Monday throughout the academic year.

Bartholomews is close to bus and train stations and has places for approximately 30 full-time and 10 part-time students, including some for additional 'top-up' tuition, whilst attending school elsewhere. It is attended by both male and female students, usually in approximately equal numbers, the great majority of whom are British. Most are aged between 15 and 19, but the College also accepts both 'mature' and younger students.

Most students come to Bartholomews to prepare for or to re-take GCSE, AS and A level examinations, but other courses offered include Oxbridge Entrance, Common Entrance, university entrance preparatory courses and undergraduate support.

We have particular experience in getting students back on track when they have missed time at school or college through glandular fever, ME or for other reasons. We have also supported 'school refusers' and students who are home educated. Our success stories are so varied and diverse that we have detailed some in a separate leaflet, which you can obtain when you request a prospectus.

The great majority of teaching at Bartholomews takes the form of one-to-one tuition. Students on courses of individual tuition have the advantage of the maximum possible flexibility in course structure. They have complete freedom to choose syllabuses which best suit them personally and exceptional students can even complete a whole A level or GCSE from scratch in as little as one term. Timetables can be extremely flexible and are often arranged to fit in with students' individual circumstances. Courses of individual tuition commence at any time during the term.

College facilities include tutorial and seminar rooms, science laboratories, a quiet study room, and a students' common room. Computer, internet, word processing, library and photocopying facilities are available to all students, without charge.

Bartholomews is an official centre for all main examination boards and full allowances are requested from the examination boards in cases where students are disadvantaged, for example from dyslexia, and students may even obtain their own invigilator and examination room if they suffer particularly from 'exam nerves'. We can recommend a local educational psychologist for assessment which may help gain special arrangements in examinations.

Bartholomews is entirely non-selective and there are no formal entry requirements. Whilst examination success remains our first priority, we aim simply to help each individual student to reach his or her own potential. Our examination results, in this respect, are hard to beat.
